The Bode City Council met in
regular session Monday January 3, 2022 at 5:30PM in the council chambers. All
members were present, also present Mark Steil. All newly elected officials had
been sworn in at the December Council meeting, with Council Rongved being sworn
in December 9th. Mayor Peterson called the meeting to order, with a
motion by Tepner, second by Fulwider to approve the agenda as posted. All ayes,
motion carried. A motion was made by Tepner, second by Fulwider to approve the
minutes of the previous meeting as published. All ayes, motion carried.
Mayor Peterson appointed Paula
Fulwider as mayor pro-tem;
other yearly appointments are as follows: Brett Legvold
with Arends, Lee, Emick & Legvold Offices-City
Attorney; Newspaper-Humboldt Independent, Fire Chief-Mark Spaulding, Health
Officer-Kossuth Regional Medical Center, Bank-West Iowa Bank (Resolution # 2022-1),
City Clerk-Becky Struthers, City Maintenance-Todd McMahon. Mayor Peterson will
serve on the 911 board.
Mark Steil was present to
discuss WIFI in the community center, he advised the council that a second IP
address would be very useful and could be installed with a separate cable.
Council member Tepner and Mark Steil will set this up, the city will pay an
additional 15.00 per month for this added WIFI. A motion was made by Tepner,
second by Rongved to approve this request. All ayes, motion carried.
City Maintenance, Todd McMahon
informed the council that he had located Solar Panel Stop signs at a cost of
1125.00 per sign and an additional 102.15 for a base. These signs will be
erected on Humboldt Ave on 1st Street heading south and 2nd
street heading North. Following discussion, a motion was made by Tepner, second
by Miller to approve the purchase as stated. All ayes, motion carried.
Paul McMahon has been filling
in as City Maintenance position, until Todd is fully released from Medical
Leave. He had started at 13.00 per hour, to be evaluated after 30 days. A
motion was made by Tepner, second by Miller to increase his pay to 14.78 per
hour. All ayes, motion carried.
A motion was made by Rongved,
second by Tepner to approve a 250 request for funding to Upper Des Moines
Opportunity. All ayes, motion carried.
A motion was made by Tepner,
second by Rongved to approve a Class C Liquor License with Sunday Sales to the
Red Lantern.
The City has received funding
in the amount of 9999.60 for a Housing Recovery Fund. Options to use these
funds were discussed, City Maintenance will note dilapidated homes within the
city limits, that these funds maybe used for in a clean-up effort.
The American Rescue Plan
funding was also discussed, this funding will be used for infrastructure needs.
SEH engineering firm has been working on a Preliminary Engineering report, all
Sewer lines have been cleaned and televised, Iowa Rural Water completed the
smoke testing, and as soon as weather allows sludge judging at the lagoon will
be noted. We are hoping to utilize this funding on future needs once this
report is complete.
Council member Fulwider
discussed food pantry options. She has been in contact with Twin Rivers
Elementary school and is hoping to be able to offer this program within our
community.
